The first Full Moon of the year, the culmination of that powerful Solar Eclipse on January 4th is certainly delivering as promised. Already, we have seen a great deal of catastrophe and suffering in the world. This is certainly not good news, yet the point is made that outer events coincide with celestial factors and our intrinsic relationship with them. If you go back to what I wrote about it, you will recall that I mentioned that this eclipse and the others to follow this year have rather malevolent reputations. It is worth noting, that Bernadette Brady, an Australian Astrologer of some well earned acclaim in the world of Astrology, has noticed that this Eclipse Family (Saros Series), which I offered an introductory overview on in my Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse Newsletter, has historically proven to be challenging for Australia. Given the massive flooding recently in Brisbane, it is fair to say that Mrs. Brady was right. While the current Full Moon is not itself an eclipse, it is the culmination of one and therefore brings with it added impact. The fact that it is a Full Moon in Cancer, the sign that the Moon rules and that it occurs at 29 Cancer 27, the last degree of the 30 in the sign, officially called an “Anaretic” degree, which is generally regarded as critical, offers its own measure of weight. Critical here does not necessarily mean bad, per se’, but it does mean that it has extra impact (See Chart).

Before I go on to shed more light on this important current focus, I wish to inform you that I have also written an article about the recent stir from academia regarding 13 Zodiac Signs verses 12 and shifted electro magnetic fields and how your sign is not what it used to be and other such confusions. Rather that try and fit it into the body of this newsletter, you can read more about it HERE.

Further, since Jupiter re-enters Aries on January 22nd (see Chart) I have also devoted some attention to it and you can read about it HERE.

But before you leave this page, I encourage you to read on to gain a more complete picture of eclipses, below. You can also read about the basic area and mode of influence from the Full Moon for each sign HERE. As for any questions regarding the tragedy of entire flocks and schools of animals suddenly dying…, I will venture that this is not a natural phenomenon and is rather the consequence of modern technology.

If you look into eclipses, which you can begin to do in my two most recent newsletters, you will discover that they are part of a series or family of eclipses. This means that every Solar Eclipse and its adjoining Lunar Eclipses are members of a different family from the next one. The rule applies in every case with the one exception of when there is a double Solar Eclipse in the same ‘eclipse season’. It is noteworthy that this will in fact be the case with the eclipse season starting on June 1st 2011. Then we will experience a Partial Solar Eclipse followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse 2 weeks later and then another Partial Solar Eclipse 2 weeks after that on July 1st. Otherwise, the repeat of each family occurs only every 18 years and a few months! So, the current Eclipse Family is called Saros Series 13 North (North because the series began at the North Pole) and the next eclipse season beginning in June will be Saros Series 13 South. I offer insight about what it means in my previous newsletter which you can link back to at the top of the page. The number is the same but the difference includes the fact that this series begins at the South Pole! I will write more about it over the coming months. Incidentally, there is actually a 3rd eclipse season this year and it begins on November 25 with yet another Partial Solar Eclipse followed by just one Lunar Eclipse, yet is again another Total Lunar Eclipse. Yes, this one is from yet another family called Saros Series 14 North.

The basic rule of thumb when it comes to understanding eclipses, eclipse seasons and the Saros Series is to look at the chart or the first eclipse in the series, which begins at either the North or South Poles. The next task it to look at the current eclipses. Looking to the relationship between both is yet another step that can be taken and there are others yet. Such studies however, rarely enter into common awareness because most people have no idea at all about the science of eclipses. It is not the domain of astronomers to be concerned with the influences of eclipses, which is where Astrologers come to the fore. However, good astronomy certainly does offer a precise and fascinating science of eclipses. In her book, “The Eagle and the Lark”, Bernadette Brady offers a good overview of this science and provides a solid foundation for how eclipses work in Astrology along with insights about their respective influences. But unless one’s world view (paradigm) incorporates an appreciation of the dynamic and intrinsic relationship we share individually and collectively, with nature and the cosmos, then it will go unobserved or appreciated. Such is the common issue when it comes to Astrology. Due to the materialistic basis of much of science currently, Astrology should not work, yet it does, thus controversies the likes of the supposed 13 constellation theory and the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Considering that the awareness of such influences offers us advantages such as making more informed choices, it is worth being more aware. So, I invite you to read my article above about the recent controversy about the constellations and the so-called 13 signs and so on…. In its brightest light, it is bringing attention to Astrology and may even give birth to new models and methods of Astrology. Yet, for that to occur, our entire paradigm will have to make the full step between the traditional mechanistic and the emerging holistic, which may currently be said to be in that precarious state of mid-stride.

On a final note, the next New Moon is in Aquarius occurring on February 2nd and it marks the official beginning of the Chinese New Year. The Chinese created their system of Astrology such that the New Year is a floating date corresponding to what amounts to be the New Moon in Aquarius each year which can occur as early as January 20 and as late as February 18. I look forward to telling you more all about it. Yes, there are many systems of Astrology, each founded on its own philosophy of life. All of them work and offer valuable insights and guidance when used proficiently, humbly and wisely. The notion that there is only one system and therefore all other must be wrong is a matter of fear-based and rigid belief dogmatism, a source of real evil in our world where tolerance at least and acceptance ideally of differences is the sign of love, respect and wisdom. Like the many cultures and languages on our planet, the rich diversity and complexity is its own blessing allowing for all the soul types and levels to fulfill their evolutionary needs and purposes.

Blessings!
